A people’s assembly is an event where people from a diverse mix of backgrounds gather to discuss local issues that they’re facing in small groups, then come up with possible solutions to put to the local council. Salisbury Democracy Alliance has now secured the funding to make this happen in Salisbury thanks to the support of the national organisation Assemble.

At all the sessions, participants will discuss what the main issues are facing Salisbury (local or national) and what solutions they propose. These issues and proposals will be fed through to local politicians (The local elections are in May) and after a third Assembly in Salisbury in June, they will be forwarded to the national People’s Assembly (House of the People) being held in July. The House of the People will have the ear of MPs, some of whom are sponsored by Assemble. We believe that this is a way of giving people the time and space to discuss issues and getting people’s voices heard through a deliberative process.

The dates and venues for 3  People’s Assemblies in Salisbury are as follows:

Saturday March 1st 2-4.15pm at the Quaker Meeting house, 51 Wilton Road, SP2 7EF

Sunday April 13th 2-4.15pm at St Gregory’s Hall, St Gregory’s Avenue, SP2 7JP

Sunday 1st June 2-4.15pm at Salisbury FC, Partridge Way, SP4 6PU

If you want to participate in one of the People’s Assemblies please respond to Mark Potts mapotts53@gmail.com or neil@beagrie.com  letting us know which of the three dates you would prefer to attend. It would be great if you could come along and talk about the issues that matter to you.
