Men take over the City Hall!

In an unprecedented event Safer and Supportive Salisbury will be bringing clubs, social activities, advice and support for the men of Salisbury together under one roof on 16 September.

The Men Matters free showcase event has something for everyone. There’s information about a range of clubs; from motorbikes to chess, walking football to weightlifting, debating to dancing.  You could join one of our workshops, listen to some free entertainment, or pick up advice and support from the many stands.

If you want to just come to have a look round the newly re-vamped City Hall and chill out with a beer in the Vinyl Café that’s fine too – it’s your day!

Writing for Wellbeing Workshop with best selling author Tom Bromley

Come and join Tom for an exclusive 45 minute workshop to see how creative writing can improve your mental wellbeing. Tom has kindly agreed to support this event for men’s mental health and numbers will be limited to allow for a more relaxed and friendly session.

Tom Bromley is an author, editor, creative writing tutor, mentor and ghostwriter (not the scary kind). He is the author of a dozen works of fiction and non-fiction including novels (Crazy Little Thing Called LoveHalf A World Away), short stories (NeonLit: The Time Out Book of New WritingBest British Short Stories 2021), memoirs (All In The Best Possible Place, Wired For Sound), and general non-fiction (We Could Have Been The Wombles, Bespoke). As a ghostwriter, he has written over twenty titles, including prize-winners and international bestsellers.

Tom has taught novel writing for over fifteen years including ten years leading Faber Academy’s online Writing A Novel and Finish Your Draft courses. Most recently he worked for Reedsy as Head of Learning, writing and running their flagship How To Write A Novel course. He has hosted the Salisbury Writing Circle since 2015 and founded the Salisbury Literary Festival in 2017.

DJ Workshop taster session

Learn some of the fundamentals of DJing in this free interactive demonstration workshop. What’s the best thing about being a DJ? Using your knowledge and passion for music and sharing your favourite tracks with an audience is an unforgettable experience and when the music flows effortlessly the audience’s energy creates a powerful feedback loop. Join this workshop to experience how it’s done.

Salisbury DJ Academy was formed in 2025 by a group of experienced local DJs to provide accessible and inclusive DJ training to anyone from any background with a particular focus on young people.

We aim to motivate and promote creativity, self confidence and technical skill through music theory, mentoring and one to one tuition.

We offer private and group DJ training and our courses are designed to be fun, hands on and easy to learn. We have a team of experienced and talented local DJs that cover a wide range of music genres, mixing styles and techniques

There is a special offer for everyone who attends this workshop: When you book one of our DJ courses or Studio Hire you will receive a free 30 minute “Remote” Rekordbox training session and get an extra half hour free on your first one to one lesson.

Groove and Move with Dance Six-0

A free 30 minute introduction to enjoying music through dance. Places are strictly limited and will be held in the City Hall Meeting room. Booking is essential. Debbie will be talking about her popular classes and the work of Dance Six-0 and has kindly offered to run this free taster session to support men’s wellbeing.

DANCE SIX-0 are a community organisation committed to supporting active, creative ageing by offering lively friendly dance classes and opportunities to 60+ year olds. Dance Artist Debbie Lee-Anthony teaches Open Classes at Salisbury Arts Centre on Wednesdays, which are contemporary dance based and set to a broad range of songs and music from across the decades. Move and groove away to reggae, Motown, jazz and classical music – Bob Marley meets Bach!  Emphasis is on the joy of moving, individual expression and social interaction – as well as health benefits for the body!
